INT. HART MANOR — STUDY — DAY

The afternoon sun slants through the tall windows, illuminating dust mites dancing in the air. GENEVA sits in a high-backed armchair, a glass of red wine on the table beside her. She turns the stem between her fingers, watching the liquid catch the light.

AVA BEARDEN is present, a feather duster in hand, making a show of cleaning a row of leather-bound books. She moves with a theatrical slowness, a little strut in her step.

GENEVA

Ava stops, a satisfied smile playing on her lips.

AVA

GENEVA

Geneva takes a slow, deliberate sip of wine. She sets the glass down with a soft click.

GENEVA

Ava’s smile tightens. She lowers the duster.

AVA

GENEVA

The satisfaction has completely drained from Ava’s face. She stands frozen, duster held limply at her side.

AVA

GENEVA

Geneva picks up her wine again, her gaze cool and unwavering.

GENEVA

Ava’s eyes flash with fury, but she swallows it down. She gives a short, sharp nod.

AVA

She turns on her heel and exits, leaving Geneva alone with her wine and a small, triumphant smile.

INT. HART MANOR — STUDY — MOMENTS LATER

The study door opens. KEITH enters, his posture straight, his expression neutral. He stops a few feet from Geneva’s chair.

Ava follows him in, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. She positions herself just behind Keith’s shoulder, a silent, defiant sentry.

Geneva looks from Keith to Ava, a flicker of amusement in her eyes.

GENEVA

She then fixes her gaze on Ava.

GENEVA

Ava doesn’t move. Her jaw is set.

AVA

GENEVA

Keith turns his head just enough to give Ava a look. It is quiet but firm. Defeated, Ava turns. As her hand touches the doorknob, Geneva speaks again.

GENEVA

A hot blush spreads across Ava’s cheeks. She shoots a venomous look at Geneva’s back, then wrenches the door open and storms out, slamming it shut behind her.

Keith remains perfectly still, his eyes on Geneva.

GENEVA

INT. SHARI’S OFFICE — LATER

The office is small but immaculate, a nerve center of calendars and schedules. SHARI BEAUMONT is at her desk, typing furiously.

The door bursts open and AVA flies in, vibrating with rage.

AVA

Shari looks up, startled.

Shari stops typing. She leans back in her chair, her expression one of pure disbelief.

Shari stands up, her patience worn thin. She lowers her voice, the words sharp and clear.

SHARI

Ava stares back, her anger warring with the hard truth in Shari’s words. She says nothing.

SHARI

Shari sits back down and turns pointedly to her computer, leaving Ava standing alone in the middle of the room, cornered.
