EXT. HART MANOR - PATIO - LATE AFTERNOON

The sun is low and gold over the gardens. GENEVA sits alone at a wrought-iron table, a glass of red wine catching the light. She looks composed. She always does when she's had time to practice.

The front door opens. ROGER and ELLE come down the steps — Roger still in his overcoat, Elle carrying a sleek H2H tote that is very obviously new.

ELLE

(smiling)

GENEVA

ROGER

(removing his sunglasses)

Geneva waits for more. There is no more. Roger crosses to the table and pours himself a splash of water, leaving the wine alone.

GENEVA

ROGER

ELLE

(lighting up)

Geneva's smile stays exactly where it is. Her eyes go somewhere else.

GENEVA

ELLE

She laughs. Roger almost does. Geneva does not. She turns her glass slowly on the table, and when she speaks her voice is a degree colder.

GENEVA

A silence settles that none of them asked for. Elle feels it and doesn't understand it.

ELLE

ROGER

ELLE

A beat. Roger looks at Geneva. Geneva looks into her wine.

GENEVA

ROGER

(calling after her)

Elle hurries inside. The moment she's gone, the patio goes very quiet.

GENEVA

(to herself, barely audible)

She drinks.

INT. KEITH'S BLACK SEDAN - DUSK

The car rolls through Atlanta's golden streets. ELLE has her seat back, the city sliding by. KEITH drives, one hand on the wheel.

ELLE

KEITH

ELLE

KEITH

Elle looks out the window. Her reflection watches the city pass.

ELLE

KEITH

(a careful beat)

ELLE

KEITH

He glances at her, and his voice drops into something softer and surer.

KEITH (CONT'D)

ELLE

(softer)

KEITH

(smalling it)

She smiles at that — a real smile — and looks back out at the city as the sun drops behind the skyline, gilding everything it touches.
