INT. HART MANOR — KITCHEN — MORNING

Sunlight pours across the marble island. ROGER HART reads the financial pages with his coffee. GENEVA HART picks at a plate of fruit she isn't eating. ELLE comes in, dressed for the day, and takes a seat as far from Geneva as the island allows.

Roger stands, buttons his jacket. Elle stands with him, relieved.

She is out of the room before Geneva can answer. Roger gives Geneva one long look — no warmth in it — and follows.

INT. HART MANOR — KITCHEN — CONTINUOUS

Geneva sits alone with the quiet. She finishes her coffee in one long swallow, then pulls her phone toward her and stops. Instead, she presses the call button on the counter.

SHARI BEAUMONT appears in the doorway a moment later.

INT. HART MANOR — CORRIDOR — MOMENTS LATER

Shari walks fast, heels clipped against the marble. She pulls out her phone, and she's already typing before she reaches the staff wing.

Ava looks up from folding linens as Shari comes in, face lit up with the particular glow of fresh information.

Ava's hands go still on the linen.

Ava folds the rest of the sheet very slowly, very carefully, like it's the only thing keeping her hands from doing something else.

Yet.

Shari watches her best friend's face do the math. Neither of them likes the answer.
