INT. HART MANOR — UPSTAIRS HALLWAY — NIGHT

The corridor is dark and quiet. Geneva Hart moves down it barefoot, her face tear-stained, still wrapped in the silk nightgown she wore to Roger's office. She doesn't turn on the lights. She doesn't need to. She knows every inch of this house, and she knows where the wine is kept.

INT. HART MANOR — WINE CELLAR — NIGHT

Geneva reaches for a bottle on the rack. Her hand is shaking. Behind her, the door opens. Keith Turner stands in the doorway, still in his uniform, a robe folded over his arm.

GENEVA

KEITH

Geneva freezes at the sound of the nickname. Keith steps forward and gently takes the bottle from her hand, setting it back on the rack. He drapes the robe around her shoulders, and then, before she can speak, he kisses her — long, slow, and sure.

When he pulls back, he looks her dead in the eye.

KEITH

Geneva's composure shatters. She falls into his arms and sobs — deep, ragged, uncontrollable sobs, eighteen years of them. Keith holds her, then lifts her into his arms like she weighs nothing.

INT. HART MANOR — GENEVA'S BEDROOM — NIGHT

Keith carries Geneva to her bed and lays her down gently. He pulls the covers over her and turns to go. She catches his wrist.

GENEVA

KEITH

He leans down, kisses her forehead, and slips out of the room.

INT. HART MANOR — UPSTAIRS HALLWAY — CONTINUOUS

From the shadows of the far corridor, Elle watches Keith leave her mother's room. She is very still. Keith passes within feet of her hiding place and never sees her. Elle's face is unreadable.

EXT. HART MANOR — GUEST HOUSE — NIGHT

Keith crosses the dark grounds to the guest house, unlocks his door — and stops cold.

INT. GUEST HOUSE — NIGHT

Ava Bearden is sitting on his bed in the dark. She stands as he enters.

AVA

Keith realizes what he's said. He closes his mouth. Ava stares at him, her eyes shining with fury.

AVA

Ava brushes past him and out the door. Keith doesn't stop her. He stands alone in the dark guest house, and for the first time, his grin is gone.
